Simple checks based on tests physical therapists and the CDC use. A few minutes each. Your answers stay on your device.
These free checks are based on tests that physical therapists and the CDC use to spot fall risk. Our cutoffs follow the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab Rehabilitation Measures Database, a leading reference for rehab tests. Each one gives you a plain-English result. None of them replace a visit with a professional, but they can help you decide if it’s time to get your balance checked.
Have another adult stand right next to you, keep a sturdy counter or chair close, and stop if you feel dizzy, unsteady or have pain.
Start with the Fall Risk Self-Check. It takes 2 minutes and you can do it sitting down. Then, with a helper nearby, try the Timed Up and Go, the 30-Second Chair Stand and the 4-Stage Balance Test. Together, these three are the movement tests in the CDC’s STEADI fall-prevention program.
12 yes-or-no questions from the CDC’s STEADI program. Get a score and a list of things to bring up with your doctor.

This is a screening, not a diagnosis. It can point out a possible fall risk, but it can’t tell you for sure whether you will fall, or why. Only a licensed health care provider who examines you can do that. If you are worried about your balance, talk with your doctor or a physical therapist.
