Reformer, Mat, Clinical & Chair Pilates at our dedicated studio in Lyndhurst. Private and group classes tailored to your body — whether you’re rehabbing an injury or simply ready to move better.
New clients welcome — all levels and abilities.
Holsman Pilates is the dedicated movement studio of Holsman Wellness Center — the same trusted brand that has served Northern New Jersey with physical therapy, occupational therapy, and wellness care for over 10 years.
What sets us apart is our clinical foundation. Our certified Pilates instructors work side by side with licensed physical therapists, making Holsman Pilates uniquely equipped for both rehabilitation and general wellness. Every program is informed by anatomy, biomechanics, and evidence-based movement principles.
Whether you’re a complete beginner, a fitness enthusiast managing an old injury, or a current PT patient looking to extend your progress, we have a class format that fits your life.
From the foundational simplicity of Mat to the therapeutic precision of Clinical Pilates, we offer the full spectrum of Pilates modalities under one roof.
The Reformer’s spring-resistance carriage enables an unmatched range of exercises for full-body conditioning. Suitable for all levels, it builds strength, flexibility, and body awareness more efficiently than mat work alone.
The original Pilates method — no equipment required. Mat classes develop core stabilization, spinal articulation, and body control through Joseph Pilates’ classical repertoire, taught in an accessible group setting.
Designed for patients recovering from surgery, injury, or managing chronic pain. Programs are developed collaboratively between your physical therapist and Pilates instructor for a seamless continuum of care.
The Wunda Chair delivers powerful strengthening in a compact, seated or standing format. Excellent for lower extremity rehabilitation, balance training, and athletes focused on unilateral leg strength and stability.
The most versatile Pilates apparatus, the Cadillac (or Trapeze Table) offers unparalleled variety — from gentle decompression and spinal traction to advanced gymnastics-level exercises. Ideal for specialized rehabilitation work.
Thoughtfully modified programming for older adults, those with limited mobility, and patients with neurological or orthopedic conditions. Every exercise is scaled to your current ability to build strength safely.
Our classes are designed to meet you exactly where you are — from first-timers to competitive athletes to post-surgical patients.
Build the core stability and movement efficiency that translates directly to sport performance and injury prevention.
Bridge the gap between formal PT and full return to activity with Clinical Pilates supervised by your care team.
Low-impact, high-benefit classes that improve balance, posture, bone density, and daily functional movement.
Reverse the effects of prolonged sitting. Improve posture, reduce back pain, and build a body you feel confident in.
At Holsman, Pilates and physical therapy aren’t separate worlds — they’re part of a single, coordinated plan for your health. Our instructors and therapists communicate directly, ensuring your Pilates program reinforces and extends the gains you make in PT.
Your physical therapist evaluates your movement patterns, impairments, and goals to identify where Pilates can accelerate your progress.
Your PT and Pilates instructor co-design a session plan that bridges your clinical goals with evidence-based movement principles.
Clinical Pilates sessions run alongside or after PT visits. Progress and any concerns are shared directly between providers.
When PT concludes, your Pilates practice continues — maintaining and building on every gain you’ve made in recovery.
Every body is different. We offer three session formats so you can find the intensity of instruction and community that suits you best.
One instructor, one client. The highest level of individualized attention — ideal for beginners, rehabilitation, or anyone who wants a fully personalized program.
Two to three clients with one instructor. Enjoy individualized cueing and a more personalized experience, with the energy and motivation of a partner setting.
Small-group Mat and apparatus classes in an energizing, community-driven environment. Great for maintaining a regular practice and meeting others on the same wellness journey.
“After my lumbar fusion I was terrified to exercise again. The Clinical Pilates at Holsman changed everything. My instructor knew exactly how to work around my restrictions and I’m stronger now than before my surgery.”
“I’ve been doing Reformer twice a week for six months. My posture has completely transformed and the back pain I had from sitting at a desk all day is essentially gone. I wish I’d started years ago.”
“The Chair Pilates class is perfect for me. I’m 72 and I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my balance. My physical therapist actually recommended I continue here after finishing my PT, and I’m so glad I did.”
No experience is needed. We welcome complete beginners and offer introductory private sessions to learn the foundational principles and movements before joining group classes. Our instructors will always meet you at your current level and progress at a pace that’s right for you.
Mat Pilates uses your own bodyweight and is performed on a mat on the floor. Reformer Pilates uses a spring-resistance apparatus (the Reformer) that supports and challenges the body simultaneously, enabling a much wider range of exercises and intensity levels. Most clients find Reformer more effective for rehabilitation and body sculpting, while Mat is an excellent complement and more accessible for group settings.
Yes — and this is one of the strongest benefits we offer. Our Clinical Pilates program is designed to work alongside your physical therapy plan. We coordinate directly with your PT to ensure your Pilates sessions reinforce your treatment goals and that no contraindicated movements are included. Many of our Pilates clients are active or recent Holsman PT patients.
Standard fitness Pilates classes are generally not covered by health insurance. However, Clinical Pilates sessions that are supervised by a licensed physical therapist and medically necessary may be billable under your PT benefits. We recommend calling us at (201) 932-2691 and we can clarify what may apply to your specific plan and situation.
Wear comfortable, form-fitting athletic wear — avoid loose clothing that can bunch up on the Reformer. Grip socks are required for apparatus classes (we have them available for purchase at the studio). Bring water and arrive 10 minutes early for your first session to complete intake paperwork and meet your instructor.
