Physical Therapy on Bloomfield Avenue in Downtown Caldwell
Holsman's Caldwell clinic is at 376 Bloomfield Ave., on the borough's main street, less than half a mile from the Grover Cleveland Birthplace and about half a mile from Caldwell University. NJ Transit's 29 bus runs along Bloomfield Avenue, and the clinic is a short drive for patients from West Caldwell, North Caldwell, Essex Fells, Verona, Fairfield and Roseland.
The clinic is led by supervisor Dr. Oliver Francis Rivera, PT, DPT, OCS, who is certified in dry needling, with occupational therapist Justin Ottino on the team. Caldwell is one of only three Holsman clinics that offer dry needling, which we use alongside exercise and hands-on care to release tight, painful muscles in the neck, back, shoulders and legs.
Patients come to us for back and neck pain, sports injuries, arthritis and rehab after joint replacement or other surgery. Physical, occupational and speech therapy are all available here, along with Holsman's HolStep® and No Fall Protocol® balance programs, shockwave therapy, KinesIQ balance training and functional capacity evaluations. Holsman has served Essex County since 2004.

Questions About Our Caldwell Clinic
What insurance does the Caldwell clinic accept?
We work with Medicare Part B and most PPO plans, and we treat many patients through workers' compensation (state claims and federal FECA), motor vehicle accident (no-fault/PIP) coverage and the VA Community Care Network. Our Caldwell front desk checks your coverage at no charge, so call 973-968-6002 before you come in.
Do I need a referral for physical therapy in Caldwell?
New Jersey allows direct access, so you can be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist without seeing a doctor first. Some insurance plans, however, require a referral or prescription before they will cover therapy. We look up your plan's rules for free. If you have Medicare, no referral is needed to start, but your doctor must sign off on your plan of care, which we arrange.
Do you offer dry needling in Caldwell?
Yes. Dry needling is offered at our Caldwell clinic by a physical therapist certified in dry needling, as part of a full physical therapy plan. Your therapist will check whether it is right for your condition during your evaluation. Coverage varies by plan, so ask us to check yours.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Bring your ID, insurance card, any referral or prescription, a medication list and any imaging or surgical reports. Wear comfortable clothes. Your therapist will evaluate you, explain the findings and start your plan, and most patients begin treatment the same day.
What are the Caldwell clinic's hours?
Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM; closed weekends.
Can I take the bus to the Caldwell clinic?
Yes. NJ Transit's 29 bus runs along Bloomfield Avenue through Caldwell. If you are driving, call 973-968-6002 and the front desk will tell you the easiest place to park.
