Physical Therapy on Valley Street in South Orange
Holsman's South Orange clinic is at 349 Valley St., about half a mile from the South Orange NJ Transit station on the Morris & Essex Lines and the village center around it. It is close to home for patients from Maplewood, West Orange, Orange, Newark and Irvington, and our Maplewood clinic on Springfield Avenue is a short drive away if its schedule suits you better.
South Orange shares its clinical leadership with Maplewood. Clinic supervisor Dr. Mandakini Desai, PT, DPT, NCS, is a board-certified neurologic clinical specialist, and occupational therapist Joann Marquez, OT, CHT, is a Certified Hand Therapist. That combination is valuable for patients recovering from a stroke, managing Parkinson's disease, or rebuilding hand and arm function.
The team also treats back and neck pain, sports and work injuries, arthritis and recovery after surgery, and offers physical, occupational and speech therapy, Holsman's HolStep® and No Fall Protocol® balance programs, shockwave therapy, KinesIQ balance training and functional capacity evaluations. Holsman has been treating Essex County patients since 2004.

Questions About Our South Orange Clinic
What insurance does the South Orange clinic accept?
Most patients at our South Orange clinic are covered. We accept Medicare Part B, private PPO plans such as Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield and United Healthcare, workers' comp (including FECA for federal employees), auto/MVA no-fault claims and VA Community Care. We verify your insurance free of charge; call 973-327-7868.
Do I need a referral for physical therapy in South Orange?
New Jersey allows direct access, so you can be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist without seeing a doctor first. Some insurance plans, however, require a referral or prescription before they will cover therapy. We look up your plan's rules for free. If you have Medicare, no referral is needed to start, but your doctor must sign off on your plan of care, which we arrange.
What happens at my first visit?
Your therapist will talk through your history and goals, then assess strength, range of motion, balance and how you move. You will leave with a plan, and most patients begin treatment that day. Bring ID, your insurance card and any referral or prescription.
What are the South Orange clinic's hours?
